Inter-island multi-terminal high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system for renewable energy integration

While the Energy Cluster largely focuses on off-grid energy solutions, it complements this work with this project which aims to study and design a multi-terminal HVDC (MTDC) transmission system to connect the energy systems of different islands in Indonesia. The MTDC system will be able to harvest affordable energy from wind farms located on remote islands and distribute this to islands with load centers, with the ultimate goal to optimally meet energy consumption needs and strengthen electricity infrastructure across Indonesia. The project will include a thorough analysis of the technical feasibility of a MTDC transmission system for an eastern Indonesian electricity grid, and deliver an optimal design and operation strategy of such a system.
