Widespread adoption of renewable and distributed generation is converging with a microgrid solution approach to providing energy to remote communities. This convergence calls for the development of reliable decision support tools for the design and operations of future microgrids. The core goal of this project is to define the optimal power technology mix, the optimal grid sizing and the optimal scheduling of smart components, as well as to give consideration to the legal barriers preventing the implementation of microgrids in Indonesia and Australia. The research will provide an innovative, scientific, evidence-based decision support tool for policy makers, investors and industry stakeholders in the energy sector.
